Whales - The Big Three
See At Least Three Different Species Of Whales On This Tour!
This 12-day trip is a whale watcher’s dream come true! On the exclusive travel dates between mid-February and mid-March there is a very good chance that you will be able to observe at least three different kinds of large whales on five boat trips. This tour starts and ends in La Paz.
This is your opportunity to experience on the same journey Gray Whales and either Fin Whales, Orcas, Blue Whales and / or Humpback Whales! But you’ll also learn about the unique vegetation, the geology and the cultural history of Baja California. So if you not only love whales and other marine life but also other fascinating manifestations of nature and culture, this tour is right for you!
- All day excursion by boat in the waters of the National Park Loreto Bay in search of Blue, Fin and Humpback Whales or maybe even Orcas.
- This is our only tour offering two boat trips to observe Gray Whales on San Ignacio Lagoon where in 1972 the notion of the “friendly whale” was born, a term that is now recognized around the globe and which changed our perception of these amazing creatures. In our experience, San Ignacio Lagoon is one of the best places to interact with whales worldwide.
- Boat tour to observe Gray Whales in Ojo de Liebre Lagoon (Scammon’s Lagoon) at Guerrero Negro, another terrific place for unforgettable Gray Whale watching.
- Humpback Whale watching tour by boat at Los Cabos.
- Full day excursion into the exceptionally beautiful Sierra San Francisco, a mountain range with a very interesting and sometimes endemic flora, rugged canyon scenery and prehistoric cave paintings, which were designated a World Heritage Site in 1993.
- Excursions to the idyllic oasis of San Javier, which is located amidst the impressive Sierra de la Giganta and can only be accessed via a difficult road through the rugged mountains. Against the backdrop of a huge volcanic slope rises a magnificent mission church that was built in 1699 by the Jesuits and is the only one remaining in its original condition. In the vicinity of the church we learn about the oasis economy and its irrigation systems and marvel at a giant 300 year old olive tree.
- Nature exploration walk at the most famous volcanic region of Baja California known as the Three Virgins to explore lava tongues and the abundant vegetation due to the fertile mineral soil.
- Short hike in the valley of the giant column cacti and visit to an estimated more than 500 year old cactus.
- City tours of La Paz, Loreto, San Ignacio and Todos Santos.
- Relax on a dreamlike beach, maybe even enjoying a picnic (optional), on the most beautiful bay in southern Baja California.
- City tours of La Paz with its charming beachfront boulevard, of the historical center of Loreto, which was once capital of all of California and features the very first of the Jesuit missions and an informative museum about the history of the missions, and the picturesque palm oasis San Ignacio with its interesting museum about the rock paintings and its gorgeous mission church.
- Visit to the oasis Mulegé with its Jesuit mission church dating from 1705 and its panoramic viewpoint over the entire palm oasis from where it’s even possible to marvel at the frigate birds’ strange way of drinking fresh water.
- Tour of Santa Rosalía - the unique old copper mining town of French origin featuring a steel church designed by Gustav Eiffel
- Full day trip to the cape region including a visit of Todos Santos, known as the artist colony of southern Baja, and at Cabo San Lucas 2-hour Humpback Whale watching excursion by boat, featuring also the famous Land’s End caracterized by the stone arch which is the landmark of Los Cabos.
