The Cradle of the Gray Whale
Enjoy The Privilege Of Being In The Gray Whales' Nursery!
Our classic best-selling whale watching tour over the past years! The focus is on Gray Whale watching by boat in each of the three existing calving lagoons. The travel route on this 9-day trip stretches through the entire southern half of the peninsula from Guerrero Negro to La Paz. The tour operates only during whale watching season starting the end of January through to the end of March with a minimum of 4 participants; the itinerary starts and ends in La Paz.
- Even though the focus of this tour is on gray whale watching many other natural and cultural attractions form part of the design, making this trip the perfect choice for the whale watcher with a universal interest in nature, living culture as well as history. Some of the included attractions are:
- Boat trip to observe Gray Whales on San Ignacio Lagoon where in 1972 the notion of the “friendly whale” was born, a term that is now recognized around the globe and which changed our perception of these amazing creatures.
- Boat tour to observe Gray Whales in Ojo de Liebre Lagoon (Scammon’s Lagoon) at Guerrero Negro.
- Boat trip to observe Gray Whales on Magdalena Lagoon.
- Nature exploration walk at the most famous volcanic region of Baja California known as the Three Virgins to explore lava tongues and the abundant vegetation due to the fertile mineral soil.
- Short hike in the valley of the giant column cacti and visit to an estimated more than 500 year old cactus.
- Full day excursion into exceptionally beautiful Sierra San Francisco, a mountain range with a very interesting and sometimes endemic flora, rugged canyon scenery and prehistoric cave paintings, which were designated a World Heritage Site in 1993.
- Frequent guided walks to enjoy the beautiful scenery and to explore and get to know the fascinating plant and bird life.
- Relax on a dreamlike beach, maybe even enjoying a picnic (optional), on the most beautiful bay in southern Baja California.
- You’ll see the entire production process at the world’s largest “open sky” salt works producing an average of 7.5 million tons of salt a year.
- City tours of the historical center of Loreto, which was once capital of all of California and features the very first of the Jesuit missions and an informative museum about the history of the missions, and the picturesque palm oasis San Ignacio with its interesting museum about the rock paintings and its gorgeous mission church.
- Visit to the oasis Mulegé with its Jesuit mission church dating from 1705 and its panoramic viewpoint over the entire palm oasis from where it’s even possible to marvel at the frigate birds’ strange way of drinking fresh water.
- Possibility of trip extension in either La Paz or Todos Santos.
- Possibility of adding an extension trip to the Copper Canyon.
